Microsoft’s Windows operating system includes a set of power options that define, among many other things, when the screen is turned off. You how to extend pc lock screen time – none: configure Windows to never turn off the screen when the device is connected to a power source.

If you do lock the screen occasionally or even regularly, you may have noticed that the setting is not honored by the operating system when you lock the system. Windows turns off the display /18351.txt 60 seconds when the system gets locked regardless of power settings. The display gets turned off in locked system state even if you have configured Windows to never turn off the display when the device is connected to a power source.

Windows comes with a hidden option in the Windows Registry to change that. You may edit the Registry to add a new option to the power configuration so that you may change the timeout value of the display when the system is locked. How to extend pc lock screen time – none:. How to customize the Lock screen on Windows 10

After upgrading most of our machines to Windows 10, I am discovering an issue with the screensaver:. Once you have enabled that policy, go down and also enable Screen Saver Timeout. Note that in the Screen Saver Timeout policy there’s an option to set the number of second for the timeout with the default being seconds or 15 minutes. Once you’ve enabled both policies and set the timeout if different from the default, exit the group policy editor.

If you now go the screen saver settings in Control Panel you will notice that the wait period will match the minutes you entered in the group policy editor but it will be grayed out preventing you from changing the value unless you go back into the group policy editor and change it there. As I stated in my initial post, I already tried this. I suppose I have not tried using the local gpedit specifically, but the GPO I used displayed the time I set correctly on client computers, it just didn’t actually work.

My GPO set screensaver time to 60 minutes, and client machines displayed screensaver as 60 minutes, but they still locked after 20 minutes, regardless. I have since disabled this GPO to continue troubleshooting, but I did run gpresult to confirm that this was applying. I also saw that the wait time of 60 minutes was appearing in screensaver settings; it just wasn’t acting like it.

When I modified my GPO to disable screensaver altogether instead of setting it for 60 minutes, the screensaver settings were all grayed out as expected, but it still locked after 20 minutes. Screen timeout and sleep time have both been set to 1 hour during testing to make sure they are not applying. One of these settings not actually applying could be the culprit, but the reason I suspect screensaver is that whenever I change the value over 20 minutes, hit apply and ok, then go back into screensaver settings, it reverts to 20 minutes or whatever smaller value it was before attempting to set it higher.

The strangest thing to me is that this is happening on virtually all our computers all the ones I’ve specifically tested, plus numerous complaints from other users , yet there is no info about this anywhere I have looked.

Most computers were upgraded from Windows 7 within the past week. I’m seriously considering reformatting and reinstalling on one machine just to confirm that it is possible to idle longer than 20 minutes in Windows Nope, I also covered these in my original post. I have sleep and display timeouts set to an hour; I have HDD timeout and hibernate set to never.
